Permalink My new business cards came in!!!
Permalink A piece I put together on a whim… but I am fond of it because it embodies a theme that I explore a lot in my work: Duality in self and perception. In my life I am frequently called innocent and naive; I am, with equal frequency, called a huge bitch. Most of my life has been spent trying to figure out who is right, but I’m not sure any of them are. I also think that “bitch” is often used out of frustration with a woman taking control of a situation — behaving in a way that is considered masculine. So I wanted to take this harsh criticism and juxtapose it with a “feminine” aesthetic.

I have a humble offering in the works…

I can’t hold the secret in much longer, so I’ve decided to pique your interest… I am working on an 18-page story/comic/whatever and have decided that as I finish them I will post 6 panels at a time.

Eeeek… I AM SO EXCITED TO SHARE IT WITH YOU… Working full-time-plus means my art time is (sadly) few and far between and just meeting my PIRATES deadlines are tricky enough.

But something is coming.

Val Toukatly: animation and interactive media artist & gallery director.

rightbrainpartisans:

Val Toukatly, manager of Porter Mill Galleries on Rantoul Street, is a sweet, soft-spoken artist. When I sat down to speak with her, I was struck by her ability to remain completely humble while doing an interview solely about how she became successful. After graduating Montserrat College of Art with a degree in animation and interactive media, Val took the position at Porter Mill. She spends her days speaking with artists in the galleries as well as managing different exhibitions, organizing dress rehearsals, and in her free time works with animation and interactive media …that is… if she has any free time. She is continually inspired by the artists around her and feels privileged to be working in gallery with such diversity. Here’s a little clip of our interview so you can hear for yourself Val’s creative outlook on her job.

What happens when I agree to an interview at the tail end of a work day? Let’s count how many times I say “um.” Haha!

Thank you to Aine for reaching out to Porter Mill.
